The temperature, which is approximately the same temperature as the lowest setting on a standard curling iron, is used to soften the Great Lengths bond so it can be molded to your natural hair. Unlike other systems, where glue guns and wax melting pots are used, the 3200 applicator allows for a very clean and precise application. The result is undetectable attachments that are brushable, durable and, most importantly, non-damaging to your natural strands.

The only processes performed on Great Lengths hair is our colorization process. Great Lengths is the only Company that does not use any toxic chemicals (i.e. ammonia and/or bleach derivatives) in the de-pigmentation and pigmentation process of our hair. The result is colorfast hair that has not been subjected to damaging ammonia and/or bleach chemicals to remove the hairs original color.

In 1992, Great Lengths International developed and patented the first pre-tipped, synthesized keratin bond polymer. Because of this ground breaking technology, many if not all extension companies now claim a “keratin bond” as their form of attachment. Factually, any form of keratin can be combined with any type of polymer to qualify as a “keratin” bond, regardless if it makes any functional difference or benefit in the bond itself. Unfortunately “keratin bond” has become more a marketing feature than a functional benefit. The GL Synthesized Keratin Bond molecular structure is specifically designed to mimic the molecular structure of human hair. The result gives the GL bond functionality that is not available in any other hair bonding compound in the marketplace. The functionality is the GL bond has the ability to expand and contract with human hair. For example, when you wash your hair or get it wet, the hair shaft expands. When it dries it contracts. Bonds that do not possess such function will soon begin to shed the extensions and ultimately slide off the client’s natural hair completely because the bond is being stretched with no capacity to contract each time the client’s natural hair expands and contracts. David Gold, founder and president of Great Lengths International, made his mark in the fashion and textile industries by inventing a progressive heat transfer system that bonds fabric to fabric on a molecular level. Applying this concept to hair extensions, David created and patented a system that molecularly bonds extensions to ones natural hair with a synthesized keratin polymer that mimics the molecular structure of human hair.
Reflecting on his textile experience, specifically that used in cashmere color processing, David also implemented a process to remove human hair’s original color without the use of toxic or harmful chemicals. In such a specialized manner, fine quality cashmere first has its natural color pigments removed and then it’s re-dyed whilst maintaining the integrity and condition of the cashmere. This technology was adapted to Great Lengths hair color processing. Combining GLI’s patented bond structure and hair colorization processes, Great Lengths International introduced the first hair extension system that included “pre-bonded” strands to the professional beauty industry in 1992.

The hair undergoes a delicate process of de-pigmentation lasting 15 – 20 days.
The black pigments are slowly removed from inside the hair, not from the outside. The typical method of lightening/bleaching hair using ammonium derivatives damages the cuticle layer, thus compromising the hair’s texture and condition! Our de-pigmentation process does not damage the hair and permits the removal of the black pigment without altering the quality of the hair.

The color pigments are broken down but they continue taking up space inside the hair. The bleaching agent also damages the hair, leaving it opaque and fragile.
Great Lengths hair is subjected to a special process of pigmentation that does not require hair color, peroxide, or bleach. Because our hair strands are not treated with harsh chemicals normally used to alter color, the hair’s structural integrity, condition and texture are maintained. This process provides the wearer and the professional the luxurious, silky feeling of virgin hair that has consistent quality without color variations coupled with a vast range of colors in the palette. The new pigment has a clean, empty space to occupy. This ensures that the molecule sits firmly in place and thus the color will not fade out… just like your cashmere sweater!
The traditional color process does not effectively cover the hair’s original color molecule, which means that after several washes the new color will fade away and could possibly leave a less desirable result.

Great Lengths utilizes only remy hair which means that the cuticle layers are all facing the same direction from root to end and, therefore, do not tangle. This also ensures that the extensions behave exactly like your own hair, blending in superbly with yours and looking super natural!

European hair is very fine and can be found on the market only in very small quantities. Few European women would be willing to give up their hair to hair companies and, if they did, it would be necessary for their hair to never have been chemically treated. Very unlikely!

Even though Chinese hair can be found in large quantities, this type of hair is not compatible with most hair textures. The structure of the cuticle and cortex are formed in a rounded cross-section as opposed to the oval shape of Caucasian hair, making it too thick and rigid to be utilized for extensions. This kind of hair is acceptable for the preparation of wigs and toupes, since these are dry cleaned only, allowing the silicone layer to stay and the hair to remain shiny.

Hundreds of thousands of Indian women gather the hair that is collected in their brushes which consists of different lengths, thicknesses and colors. This method of collection results in balls of yarn where the hair lies unorganized in all directions. Because of the inability to insure the cuticle layer of the hair is facing the same direction, it is necessary to submit it to an aggressive acid treatment to strip it of its cuticle layer. Once removed, the hair receives a silicone coating which allows it to remain tangle free after the first few shampoos. The condition and manageability continue to diminish over time.
The method of bonding patented by Great Lengths is of the highest technology. The keratin is a polymer compound whose molecular structure is very similar to that of human hair and respects its same properties and alterations. When wet, hair expands and when dry it contracts back to its natural state. Our keratin moves and behaves like your own hair, ensuring a gentle yet strong hold without damage.
Unlike our keratin, other polymers do not behave like human hair. This means that the Environmental elements will soon deteriorate the bond and the hair starts to fall out.
