the 2nd annual wine festival at villa christina offers a day of wine, food, art & music

By: | May 13th, 2003

ATLANTA (May 13, 2003) — Wine aficionados, gourmets, art lovers and music enthusiasts will unite on Sunday, June 8th for an all day extravaganza of wine, food, art and music at The 2nd Annual Wine Festival at Villa Christina, 4000 Summit Boulevard. From 12:30 to 6:00 p.m., they will sample fine wines from around the world (see attached sheet for list of wineries) and the best foods Atlanta restaurants (see attached sheet for list of restaurants) have to offer.

Wine festival patrons will stroll through Villa Christina’s elegant ballrooms and blooming rose gardens viewing fine works of art from Artistic Designs, Carters’ Artistic Connections, Fine Wine Paintings, Marisa Marinetto, Timothy Michael, Regency Fine Art, Vinings Gallery and renowned wine painter Thomas Arvid. They will enjoy live entertainment from Momentum (playing smooth jazz and R&B), Marc Bryant (playing melodic hard rock) and That 80’s Band (playing 80’s covers), performing in the open-air event pavilion. While the bands play, Eric Waugh will paint live to the beat of the music. Inspired by the music, he will interpret the performances, translate them to his canvas, and bring to life a unique synthesis of visual and musical art. Festival guests will also enjoy juggling and other entertainment from Jest For Fun, as well as tethered hot air balloon rides from ReMax.

Additionally, festival goers will have access to a silent auction, benefiting Angel Flight of Georgia, offering dinners at Atlanta’s best restaurants, hotel stays at some of the country’s top properties, luxurious spa services, rare wines, wine-related merchandise and much more. They will also have the opportunity to shop till they drop, browsing through wine-related merchandise from Riedel, wineaccessoriesmart.com, BeautyFacts by K.D. and Karen’s Creations Handbags, and to sit leisurely in the gardens next to cascading waterfalls watching chef demonstrations and wine seminars on site.

Themed wine seminars will include a sushi and sake pairing with food prepared by MF Sushi Bar and sake from Savannah Distributing Company. Additionally, an Argentinean wine seminar will feature Argentinean wines provided by Gaucho Group paired with Argentinean cuisine from Pampas Steakhouse, with live Tango dancing. Also, a Southern wine seminar will feature North Georgia wines paired with traditional Southern dishes.

The two-part festival, sponsored in-part by Jezebel Magazine, Smooth Jazz 107.5, Villa Christina, Creative Wizards Advertising, The Coca-Cola Company, Delta, Hines, Millstone Coffee, Mercedes, AT&T, ReMax and Pancerz & Associates, consists of a one-hour, invitation-only VIP Trade Event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a public festival from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the public festival cost $45 in advance, $50 at the door (if available), limited to those 21 years of age and older. The price includes all wine and food sampling; all seminars, demonstrations and entertainment; and a souvenir tasting glass, tasting plate and goodie bag. To purchase tickets, visit www.villachristina.com or call 404-303-0133.

Parking ($3.00; cash only), merchandise and silent auction items are additional. The silent auction will benefit Angel Flight of Georgia, a non-profit organization providing free transportation to patients undergoing special medical treatments. After raising $10,000 for Angel Flight in 2002 (and $1,755 for the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food), The 2nd Annual Wine Festival at Villa Christina plans to raise $15,000 for charity. For more information, visit www.villachristina.com or call 404-303-0133.
