villa christina and smooth jazz 107.5 wjzz announce the entertainment for the 3rd annual summer jazz series

ATLANTA (2006) — The Summer Jazz Series offers free jazz concerts all summer long in Villa Christina’s serene oasis of green lawn. The Series consists of five complimentary outdoor concerts at Villa Christina, 4000 Summit Boulevard, on Sundays, June 25th, July 30th, August 27th, September 24th, and October 22nd, 2006.

Tammy Allen and The Colors of Jazz will kick off the series on June 25th and electrify the stage with their smooth jazz , funky grooves and Latin rhythms. Accompanied by special guest Antoine Knight, The Colors of Jazz will fire up the audience with their energetic variety of jazz classics and great original compositions. (www.tammyallen.com) Saxophonist Antoine Knight will fuel up the crowd with his special blend of “jazz, inspirational, soul and a little funk”. Known for his interaction with the audience and spirited playing style, Antoine made Atlanta jazz history by becoming the first independent artist to be picked by a major radio station (107.5 WJZZ) with his debut CD, “In the Red”. July 30th features Kompani, a jazz duo featuring WJZZ on-air personality Brian Clay and special guest, saxophonist Pamela Williams. Having had the distinction of opening twice for jazz great David Sanborn, Kompani is well-versed in keeping the atmosphere cool and smooth. This soulful, urban ensemble has a refreshing way with sultry songs and will bring their polished, contemporary sound to Villa Christina on Sunday, July 30th. (www.kompanimusic.com). Known as “the first lady of sax”, Pamela Williams is all set to wow the crowds with her musically diverse repertoire of sounds and irresistible grooves. Pamela has jammed with such notable artists as Babyface, Sheila E, and Patti LaBelle. Having earned her reputation as “the saxtress”, Williams will enchant the audience with her magnificent talent. International Jazz sounds will be imported to Villa Christina on Sunday, August 27th, when Rua 6 takes the stage. Effortlessly blending Latin, Spanish, Caribbean, and African rhythms, Rua 6 keeps people dancing all night to their “world music with a strong Brazilian accent”. (www.rua6.com)

Trumpeter extraordinaire Joey Somerville is all set to amaze the audience on September 24th with his unique mix of be-bop jazz and melodic soul. Somerville’s talent reveals itself in his eclectic combination of classic styles with the newer influences of R&B and hip-hop. (www.joeysommerville.com)

Winding up this summer’s series is keyboardist William E. Green, performing on October 22nd. Green is an innovative, melodic jazz musician who has jammed and recorded with many famous players, including Peabo Bryson, Curtis Mayfield, and Bony James. (www.musicmontaj.com)
